Household Items as Weights

Household items can serve as good alternatives to traditional weights like dumb bells or kettle bells. 

Here's a quick list of household items you can consider as alternatives to weights. But remember, while weights add resistance to your workouts, you don't need weights to do any of my workouts! If you don't have weights and you're using an alternative not on this list, let me know what it is!

Household item suggestions for the 30-day Fitness Plan

Most of these items have approximate weights noted on their containers so don't forget to look for the weight. 

  • Water bottles

  • Gallon of water

  • Soup cans

  • Back pack with books

  • Laundry detergent (large)

  • Milk Jug

  • Packets of rice or beans

  • Bags of apples

  • Bags of coffee

  • Oil bottles (secured tightly closed)

  • Condiment bottles like ketchup

  • 1 - 16 oz water bottle = 1lb

  • 1 - 16 oz can of food = 1lb

  • 1 - 20 oz can of food = 1.75lb

  • 1.5 liter of laundry detergent = 3.75lb

  • 64 oz of Ketchup = 4lbs

  • Flour or sugar = 5lb

  • 1 gallon of milk = 7-8lb

  • 2lb bag of potatoes, apples or oranges

Don't forget - 16 oz = 1lb so head over to the pantry and look for your favorite new weights!
